Updates, Amendments and Revisions
IFR recency requirements under CARs 401.05 have recently changed. Replace the following text at 1.01 Instrument Rating Requirements with the following:
Recency Requirements
For IFR recency purposes, following the first day of the 7th month after the completion date of the flight test or IPC (or PPC), and within 6 months preceding the flight, the holder of an instrument rating must have completed 6 instrument approaches to the minima specified in the CAP or in the Jeppesen charts in an aircraft, in actual or simulated instrument meteorological conditions, or in a Level B, C or D simulator of the same category of aircraft, or in a flight training device under the supervision of a person holding the required qualifications.
Alternatively, following the first day of the 7th month after the completion date of either the flight test or IPC (or PPC), within 6 months preceding the flight, the holder of an instrument rating must have completed 6 instrument approaches to the minima specified in the CAP or in the Jeppesen charts in an aircraft, in actual or simulated instrument meteorological conditions, while acting as a flight instructor conducting training towards an Instrument Rating.
The holder of an instrument rating shall retain a record of having met IFR recency requirements for 3 years.
